Gold Silver Reports (GSR) – It seems that the Bloomberg story here implies that the UK wants to aim for a later deadline in Brexit talks in hopes that the EU will be so preoccupied with the prospect of Trump disrupting the G-20 summit that they will want to a Brexit deal wrapped up.
That means that May and her team will be looking to resist the EU’s calls for quicker progress ahead of the EU Summit scheduled for 18-19 October. However, it is reported now that EU officials are looking to move Brexit talks to 20 September in an informal summit while shifting the October agenda to focus on a response towards Trump’s tariffs.
Whatever the case is, the “official” deadline remains in October for now. And it’d be a bit naive for Theresa May to believe that such a plan to push it to November would succeed like clockwork – especially when Trump himself has other distractions to worry about than the G-20 i.e. mid-terms.
