MCX & NCDEX: On January 1, 2026 (New Year’s Day), both MCX (Multi Commodity Exchange) and NCDEX (National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange) are not fully closed.
India’s largest non-agri commodity exchange – The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will be open for trading in the first session between 9 am and 5 pm and will close during the evening session. The largest agri commodity exchange, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), will also open in the morning session while observing a holiday in the evening session.
All intraday commodity (MCX & NCDEX) positions will be squared off at 4:50 PM.
Most major global stock and commodity markets will remain shut for trading on Thursday, January 1. The markets in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, France, Germany, the UAE, UK and the US will be closed on the first day of the new year. Meanwhile, the bourses in China and Japan will have an extended New Year holiday on Friday, January 2.
For MCX, the evening session timing is 5 pm to 11:30/ 11:55 pm, while for NCDEX, it is between 5 pm and 9 pm and the morning sessions for both begin at 9 am.
The official 2026 trading holiday calendar for MCX and NCDEX was recently released by the exchanges, giving investors and traders early visibility into non-trading days across the cash and derivatives segments.

- January 1: Open in the morning session while closed in the evening session.
- Republic Day, January 26: Closed in both sessions.
- Holi, March 3: MCX will remain open in the morning session while remaining closed in the evening session.
- Shri Ram Navmi, March 26: MCX will be closed in the morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Shri Mahavir Jayanti, March 31: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Good Friday, April 03: Closed in both sessions.
- Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, April 14: Closed in the morning session but will open for trading in the evening.
- Maharashtra Day, May 1: MCX to remain closed in the morning session and open in the evening session.
- Bakri Id, May 28: MCX to remain closed in the morning session and open in the evening session.
- Moharram, June 26: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Ganesh Chaturthi, September 14: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Mahatma Gandhi, Jayanti, October 2: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Dussehra, October 20: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Diwali-Balipratipada, November 10: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Guru Nanak, Jayanti, November 24: Closed in morning session and will be open in the evening.
- Christmas, December 25: Closed in both sessions.
With the exception of January 1, NCDEX will remain closed on the above dates in both sessions.
