Gold Silver Reports (GSR) – President Trump and Kim Jong Un meet in Singapore for Historic S ummit — President Donald Trump is set to meet with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un on June 12 at a swanky Singapore hotel for the first face-to-face meeting between sitting American and North Korean leaders.
And the stakes are high: Just last year, the two leaders were openly threatening each other with possible nuclear war. Now, they’ll be sitting down to discuss the possible dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear program.
North Korea says it wants to talk with the US to lower tensions. But getting here wasn’t easy. Kim’s opposition to the idea of full denuclearization caused some rifts in the planning of the summit; Trump called it off on May 24, then revived it eight days later. To convince Kim to even consider giving up his weapons, the US will need to make some serious concessions as well.
There are reasons to be pessimistic about the meeting, but however it plays out, it will mark the most dramatic diplomatic moment of Trump’s presidency so far. – Neal Bhai Reports
