30 जून को जारी एक सरकारी नोटिस के अनुसार, भारत ने सोने पर मूल आयात शुल्क 7.5 प्रतिशत से बढ़ाकर 12.5 प्रतिशत कर दिया है। यह कदम भारत के सोने के बाद दुनिया के दूसरे सबसे बड़े कीमती धातु उपभोक्ता के रूप में सोने की आमद को कम करने के लिए उठाया गया है। बढ़ते व्यापार घाटे ने रुपये को रिकॉर्ड निचले स्तर पर धकेल दिया। यह पिछले साल के केंद्रीय बजट प्रस्तावों का उलट है, जहां वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण ने सोने पर सीमा शुल्क को 12.5% से घटाकर 7.5% करने की घोषणा की थी। उस समय सोने पर कुल शुल्क 10.75% था, जिसमें उपकर, सामाजिक कल्याण अधिभार और जीएसटी शामिल थे।
