B.S. Yeddyurappa Resigns as Karnataka Chief Minister Ahead of Floor Test

Gold Silver Reports (GSR) – B.S. Yeddyurappa Resigns as Karnataka Chief Minister Ahead of Floor Test — Five days after Karnataka delivered a hung verdict in the Assembly elections, a floor test in the secretariat did not materialise as Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa submitted his resignation after delivering an emotional speech in the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, on Saturday.

The development comes as a boost to the opposition, the JD(S)-Congress combine that claims to have the support of 117 legislators — well over the halfway mark in the 224-member Assembly. “We are eagerly waiting for the Governor to invite HD Kumaraswamy to form the government,” Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters.

Yeddyurappa said that he tried his best to resolve the gamut of problems that Karnataka is facing. He harked back to the Parivartana Yatre (tour for change), a campaign that he had launched ahead of the elections. “I got to visit every nook and corner of the state and stayed in the houses of many deprived sections. This gave me a first-hand experience of what was the prevailing situation,” he said. “I got to know what they make for a living and sustenance. People reposed their faith in me, and that was reflected in the mandate that the BJP received.”  Neal Bhai Reports (NBR)
